The government has ordered the construction of a 16km cycling track alongside Jumeirah Beach in the emirate.

If you were living in Dubai back in 2006, you might remember that cycling lanes covered about 10km. Now it’s more like 316km. But in the near future? You can expect more than double that.
Cyclists around the city will be delighted to know that plans are being made to expand the tracks to 850km by 2030. That’s a whole lot of room for people to pump their legs.

This was announced on Tuesday by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) during the three-day MENA Transport Congress and Exhibition in Dubai, organised by the RTA and International Association of Public Transport (UITP)
Mona Al Osaimi, RTA director of strategic planning, said: "The RTA has strategic plans to make Dubai one of the best cities in providing cycling lanes and supporting non-mechanical mobility means. It is anticipated that the total length of cycling lanes in Dubai will reach 850 km by 2030 from 316km this year, and only 10km in 2006."

There are three new cycling tracks opening in Dubai early next month, and we can’t wait to feel the wind in our hair.
The tracks will stretch 32km across Mushrif, Mirdif and Al Khawaneej, and are set to open in early February.
