Dubai Eases Alcohol Laws To Help Boost The Economy

We’re amid a massive economic crisis that’s been worsened by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and countries all around the world are struggling to regain its economic footing.

Dubai isn’t immune to the side-effects of the economic slump, however, the city is pulling all stops to ensure a swift recovery and one of their latest updates is easing alcohol restrictions to allow for an uncomplicated process to access alcohol in the emirate.

This news comes after reports suggested that liquor sales in Dubai have seen a colossal decline since early 2020, due to expenses shooting up and gross income hitting record lows, as seen during the 2007-2009 Great Recession.

Dubai loosens its alcohol laws by making the application process to attain a liquor license in the emirate much simpler.

Previously the Dubai government required non-Muslims to carry red liquor permit cards issued by the police in order to purchase or store alcohol in their homes, without which expats could face heavy fines and other strict legal action.

Now the red cards have been replaced with easier-to-attain black permit cards, with the process made a BILLION times easier. According to MMI Dubai, the updated application process only requires an Emirates ID and is NO LONGER based on your salary.

Dubai-bound passengers can now purchase alcohol from suppliers, with no trouble at all by using just their passports instead of having to apply for a permit.
