New bridge to Dubai Creek Harbour opens to traffic

A new bridge leading to the entrance of the Dubai Creek has opened to traffic.

The flyover extends 740 metres and has three lanes.

It can handle up to 7,500 vehicles every hour in one direction and 3,000 in the opposite way.

The new bridge is a part of Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Crossing project.

“The [first stage of the] project links the traffic inbound from Dubai-Al Ain Road and Al Khail Road heading Eastwards to Dubai Creek – Dubai Creek Harbour,” said Mattar Al Tayer, director general of the authority.

"The project includes the construction of a new street of four lanes in each direction extending 1.5 km in addition to entry/exit points from and to the newly constructed buildings, to ease the movement of traffic inbound from Nadd Al Hamar Street-Ras Al Khor Road junction.

“The new network ensures free traffic flow to the newly constructed residential units at Dubai Creek area by linking with surrounding streets. Works completed included a modern lighting network of 108 light poles.”

An introduction to Dubai Creek Harbour

The Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Crossing Improvement Project is one of the biggest projects RTA is seeking to complete over the next few years.

It includes the construction of a flyover crossing over the Dubai Creek to link Jaddaf area with the street separating Dubai Creek and Dubai Festival City.

The project will be completed in three stages, of which the first phase has been completed.

Once complete, the new roads and bridges will reduce the travel time between Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Dubai-Al Ain Road from 22 to eight minutes.

It will also link development projects in area such as Al Kheeran, Dubai Creek, and Meydan Horizons.

Nearly 650,000 residents are expected to live in these communities.

The project is expected to be completed by the fourth quarter of 2022.
