More new schools begin operating in Dubai in academic year 2023-2024
Over the past decade leading up to 2024, Dubai has witnessed a remarkable expansion in its education sector, particularly in the realm of private schooling. This growth not only reflects the city's commitment to educational excellence but also mirrors its broader socio-economic development, including population growth and increasing demand for housing.
From 2008 to 2024, the number of private schools in Dubai saw an impressive increase. In the decade up to 2019, the number of private schools grew from around 143 to 209, marking a 46% rise. This growth trajectory continued, with 94 new private schools established in the last 10 years, including 21 in just the past three years. By the 2023 -2024 academic year, the count reached 220.
Accompanying this increase in schools was a surge in student enrolment. Between the 2015/16 and 2018/19 school years, student numbers in private schools grew by 9%, from 265,299 to 289,195. This number further swelled to over 326,000 by the end of the last academic year.
The proportion of students attending 'good' or better schools more than doubled from 30% in 2008-09 to 66% in 2017-18, indicative of enhanced educational standards.
The educational sector's growth is both a cause and consequence of Dubai's growing population. The last decade's expansion in Dubai's education sector, marked by a significant increase in the number of private schools and improved educational standards, aligns closely with the city's population growth and escalating housing demands.
